Condenser Pollution

Serious pollution of the condenser, pipes, pipe-plates can lead to retubing. read more


With serious damage it could be necessary to do repairs or even retubing.

Coating measurements

Eventual damage to the coating can be assessed by measuring the disruption value (electric). This results in a decision on making a repair or complete retubing.

Condenser pollution

Severe condenser pollution and attacked tubes and tubeplates have as a consequence that retubing is necessary. In general this has a financial advantage relative to a new condenser, especially when retubing can be completed on site.

Chemical pollution

The green color indicates the oxidation of copper from the Copper-Nickel tube-material (CuNi 90/10 or CuNi70/30). Dead mollusks (Mussels etc.) are the cause of this effect, as when they die, nitric acid arises and react with the base materials.

Condenser Pollution


After cleaning and cutting of the sharp edges the tubeplate and the inside of the tubes are provided with several layers of coating. The coating process is carried out by Zaremba Germany. The coating process takes approximately 4 weeks to complete, this includes transport.

Condenser is taped up and is ready for transport to the coating factory. Taping up the condenser protects the tubeplates, which are cleaned for a second time when they arrive at the coating factory.

Montage pipe plates

It is of outmost importance that both tubes and tubeplates are clean before they are welded. This is checked by us, after which an inspection by licensed inspectors determines whether the current state is sufficiently clean.

Titanium is a material that is best resistant against the sea- and polluted water The picture on the right here is of a Titanium implementation with Titanium tubes and steal tubeplates with Titanium cladding. The tube- and tubeplate connection is made by orbital welding in combination with expanding. The advantages or Titanium implementation are as follows:

  1. Resistant to erosion and corrosion

  2. Resistant to low and high water velocities

  3. Resistant to pollution (silt, rotting mollusks, seagrass etc.)

  4. Resistant to zero velocity corrosion during not running the installation

SIR have designed a complete range of condensers with Titanium implementation which can be used with Freon, NH3, LNG – LPG and CO2 installations. We are eager to provide you with more information and/or present a keynote presentation concerning corrosion/erosion and the new range of condensers.
